Add Account Instructions
This page describes how to set up your Microsoft Outlook to work with mail from Netsville's servers. The most recent instructions are also described on Microsoft's Office website at this link http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook-help/add-or-remove-an-email-account-HA010354414.aspx if you need further details.
2016
- Open Outlook
- File->Info->Add Account
- Choose Manual setup or additional server types then hit NEXT
- Choose POP or IMAP then hit NEXT
- On the POP and IMAP Account Settings page, fill in using the screenshot below as a guide
- Click Outgoing Server and select [x] My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication
- Click Advanced tab and use the screenshot below as a guide for what to fill in
- You should be back at the POP and IMAP Account Settings page.
2010
- Open Outlook
- File->Info->Add Account
- Type in your name, email address, and password. After you click Next, Outlook will try to configure the settings automatically. But this might not work.
- When you return to this page, select Manually Configure... at the bottom.
- Choose Internet Email for the service.
- Fill out your Information on this page based on your email credentials. We strongly recommend that you choose IMAP as the Account Type. Also note that User Name and Email Address must be the same. Any time you are asked to provide the name of a server, use securemail.netsville.com.
- Alright, now we're getting into the meat of it. The first thing you want to do is change the encrypted connection under Incoming server to SSL. This will automatically change the port to 993. If you had selected POP3 on the previous page, the port would be 995. We are showing 993 here because we chose IMAP. Under Outgoing server, change the encrypted connection to TLS. You may need to type in the port number 587 if it doesn't change automatically.
- Now click on the Outgoing Server tab at the top of the Internet E-mail Settings dialog box. THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT SCREEN IN THESE INSTRUCTIONS! It may look different depending on whether you've chosen POP3 or IMAP. But the important thing remains the same: Always choose My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication. And you have a choice at this point. Either click Use same settings as incoming mail server or type everything in under Log on using. We have chosen to fill this out to demonstrate what it looks like.
- After you click OK you will be back at the Add New Account dialog box. Click the Test Account Settings button.
- If everything has been typed in correctly, you should see this Congratulations dialog. You're done!
2007
Tested on Outlook 2007 on XP and Vista.
- Go to Tools > Account Settings
- Click the "Email" tab
- Select the account you want to change
- Click the "Change" button
User Information | |
---|---|
Your name | John Doe |
E-mail Address | you@domain.com |
Server Information | |
Account Type | POP3 |
Incoming mail server | securemail.netsville.com |
Outgoing mail server (SMTP) | securemail.netsville.com |
Logon Information | |
User Name | you@domain.com |
Password | <your password> |
- Click on the "More Settings" button
- Click the "Advanced" tab
- Change the following options:
- Check "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)"
- Change "Outgoing server (SMTP)" port to 587
- Note: You can try to use port 25, but some ISPs block this port
- Choose "TLS" for the dropdown box for "Use the following type of encrypted connection"
- TLS is no longer required as of 20 Oct 2011. If you cannot get your email to work, remove the TLS encryption and try again.
- Click the "Okay" button
- Click the "Next >" button
- Click the "Finish" button
Send a test email to yourself. If you successfully send and receive it, your account is set up properly.
